Shareware v1.25 was a special demo created for Sybex. Doom was so popular that Microsoft developed a Windows 95 port to showcase Windows 95 as a gaming platform. There are 4 episodes in this game, with only the first episode playable in the shareware version.
The shareware version contains the entire first episode of the game, Knee-Deep in the Dead. NOTE: This game has a native Windows version but it is recommended to use a third-party source port (see the links section below).
