20 Οκτ 2023 · Shelling. The uninhabited barrier islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore are a well known desination for "shelling" or collecting seashells. Knobbed Whelks, Bay Scallops, Scotch Bonnets, and other types of shells can be found washed up on our shores for visitors to collect.

25 Μαρ 2024 · Whelk shell on the beach of South Core Banks, Cape Lookout National Seashore. South Core Banks has the most shells that I have ever seen on a beach. At times they were so thick that driving over them sounded like I was driving on gravel.
