You will be asked a few questions to help determine if EEOC is the right federal agency to handle your complaint. It's a quick and easy way to find out if EEOC can address your situation. Submitting an online inquiry is not the same as filing a charge of discrimination with EEOC.
If you decide to file a discrimination complaint, you must do so within 15 days from the day you received notice from your EEO Counselor about how to file a complaint. This notice is sent to you after your final interview with the EEO Counselor.

Where and How to File Complaints . A complaint may be filed at any of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights offices if the alleged act of discrimination occurred within the past 180 days.
A charge is a signed, written complaint about a negative job action that you believe was based on your race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.
Exhaustion is not required to file a discrimination claim in court based on state law. The EEOC must first issue the document known as “Dismissal and Notice of Rights” or “Notice of Right to Sue” (Form 161), before you can file a case based upon your federal claim.
