This review reveals that a mentoring program has positive effects on the mentors, mentees, and organizations. A successful mentorship program should include rigorous mentor selection and adequate training.
A review of the literature includes descriptions of formal and informal mentoring as well as the description of mentoring in the role transition process. The goal of the study by Hale and Phillips was to develop a theory to address the processes involved in nurse-to-nurse mentoring relationships. 1
The findings of this systematic review on the application and effectiveness of mentorship programmes for nurses who have recently registered can provide references for nursing managers who are selecting mentors and for the design of practical programmes.
