There is no set list of side effects all Efudex users will encounter. (Oh, if it were only that simple.) The side effects vary depending upon the area you are treating, the length of treatment, and the number of times you are applying daily.
20 Αυγ 2024 · Efudex may cause serious side effects. Stop using Efudex and call your doctor at once if you have: severe pain or swelling of treated skin; severe itching, burning, or irritation; new or worsening skin sores; fever, chills; or. severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, vomiting.
After Efudex applications, the skin can be red and painful. Gentle cleansers and moisturizers, ice packs, and makeup can make side effects more manageable.
Rare side effects: Please contact your dermatology team immediately if any of these occur • Skin infection at the treatment site • Stomach cramps, diarrhoea, vomiting, a swollen or sore tongue, mouth ulcers or a fever
The treatment duration of Efudex cream is twice daily for 2-4 weeks, during which time you should expect to have an erosive reaction causing redness and scabs on the precancerous spots. Skin not damaged by UV rays do not typically react to the cream.
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.
