Apophysitis occurs most often in the calcaneus and tibial tubercle. Signs and symptoms are pain, swelling, and deformity (lump) at the affected apophysis. Pain will be present over the apophysis rather than over the nearby fibrous structures, but symptoms can be vague or referred elsewhere.
