513.11 Sick Leave for Employee Incapacitation. Sick leave insures employees against loss of pay if they are incapacitated and cannot perform their duties because of illness, injury, pregnancy and confinement, or medical (including dental or optical) examination or treatment.
The employee or family member must be under the continuing supervision of, but need not be receiving active treatment by, a health care provider. Examples of such conditions include Alzheimer’s, a severe stroke, and the terminal stages of a disease.
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) guarantees eligible letter carriers up to 12 weeks of leave each postal leave year, for: A new child in the family—by birth, by adoption or by placement in foster care; Caring for a family member with a serious health condition;
