The best evidence on the possible health effects of EMF exposure can provide an epidemiologic studies. The idea that exposure to power-frequency electric and magnetic fields (commonly termed “electromagnetic fields” or EMF) might contribute to human cancer causation has been under close study for nearly two decades.
The electric and magnetic forces in EMFs are caused by electromagnetic radiation. There are two main categories of EMFs: Higher-frequency EMFs, which include x-rays and gamma rays. These EMFs are in the ionizing radiation part of the electromagnetic spectrum and can damage DNA or cells directly.
Broadly the EMFs are categorized into two groups, namely, extremely low frequency (ELF) EMF (>3 Hz–3 kHz) and radiofrequency radiation (RFR) EMF (3 kHz–300 GHz). Scientific investigations concerning the interaction of EMF with living systems, especially its health effects, are increasing in number.
