Abstract This lab was performed to determine the impact of temperature and pH on the efficiency of an enzyme. The results obtained, displayed the optimal pH and temperature for the tested enzyme as well as the flexibility of the enzyme around those optimal points.
Enzymes are essential to the breakdown of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and other molecules in the cell (Koshland). There are three types of enzymes that effect the location and function of the enzyme. These three enzymes are metabolic enzymes, digestive enzymes, and food enzymes found in uncooked nuts, vegetables, and fruits (Boncompagni).
This lab experiment determined that high pH buffers makes enzymes react faster. The graph demonstrates the relationship between the rate of the reaction and the pH buffer. As the concentration of the pH increased, so did the rate of the reaction.
30 Ιουλ 2022 · Enzymes are proteins that catalyze biochemical reactions by lowering the activation energy necessary to break the chemical bonds in reactants and form new chemical bonds in the products. Catalysts bring reactants closer together in the appropriate orientation and weaken bonds, increasing the reaction rate.
10 Ιαν 2012 · Experiment 10 – Enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts for biological reactions. Enzymes, like all catalysts, speed up reactions without being used up themselves. They do this by lowering the activation energy of a reaction. All biochemical reactions are catalyzed by enzymes.
21 Απρ 2017 · Introduction: Enzymes are proteins produced by living cells. They are biochemical catalysts meaning they lower the activation energy needed for a biochemical reaction to occur. Because of enzyme activity, cells can carry out complex chemical activities at relatively low temperatures.
