Stress influences multiple neural pathways and brain systems that are critical for episodic memory. For example, stress first exerts rapid effects in the brain by producing a surge in both dopaminergic and noradrenergic activity within the prefrontal cortex (Arnsten, 2009; Shansky & Lipps, 2013).
Episodic memory is a neurocognitive (brain/mind) system, uniquely different from other memory systems, that enables human beings to remember past experiences. The notion of episodic memory was first proposed some 30 years ago.
