26 Ιουλ 2014 · Equilibrium Theory of Social Change • Talcott Parson’s view of social change in which society is likened to living organism. • Change in one part of the social system produces change in all other parts as the system attempts to regain balance, or equilibrium.
The theory is that every change in society leads affects all aspects in society and aims for an equilibrium. The goal is stability and balance in society. As institutions become more complex, so must everything else in order for there to be balance.
By the term “equilibrium” model a change may occur in one part of society, adjustment must be made in other parts. If not , society’s equilibrium will be threatened and stains will occur.
The course defines social change as alterations in social structure, norms, values, and cultural products over time. Key processes of social change include discovery, invention, and diffusion of new ideas and technologies between groups.
