These include furniture, school catalogs, photographs, and a nineteenth century uniform from the Illinois Training School for Nurses, the first Nightingale-type nursing school in the Midwest.

About the Illinois Training School for Nurses Collection The ITS lantern slides are from the 1880s and show images of wards in Cook County Hospital, student nurses at work, a bed-making demonstration, and several portraits of early ITS nurses.
This photo depicts nurses from the Nursing School at South Chicago Community Hospital (now Trinity) having a meal. In 1917, the hospital was a small foundering institution, close to bankruptcy, when Clara Dorothy Schafer (1898-1972) was brought on as assistant superintendent.
