The Ozarks, also known as the Ozark Mountains, Ozark Highlands or Ozark Plateau, is a physiographic region in the U.S. states of Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, as well as a small area in the southeastern corner of Kansas. [1]
1 Νοε 2021 · Bumpy stumps called “knees” stick out of the water around a cypress’s trunk. The knees act like snorkels to carry air down to the tree’s waterlogged roots. Swamps are usually swamped with long-legged birds that wade through the murky water searching for fish, frogs, and other creatures to eat.
17 Μαΐ 2011 · The Magical Cypress Swamps of southeastern Oklahoma. Who would have thought they existed but in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma there are mystical cypress swamps tucked away in the woods. We went to the Little River National Wildlife Refuge where Dave Weaver, Manager of the Refuge took us to see some of the champion trees in the preserve.
In Missouri, sinkhole pond wetland communities include pond marshes, pond swamps, and pond shrub swamps. Most of Missouri’s sinkhole pond wetlands occur in the Ozarks, in the southern half of the state, where karst geology predominates, and along the Mississippi River hills.
15 Σεπ 2020 · Hornersville Swamp Conservation Area is in southernmost Dunklin County, two miles southeast of Hornersville. This conservation area provides an excellent example of how the entire vicinity appeared before drainage and clearing changed the face of Missouri's Bootheel.
