14 Σεπ 2001 · The miracle at Engine Co. 7, in the shadow of the ruins. NEW YORK CITY (BP)–More than 200 firefighters from the New York Fire Department are missing in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack that leveled the World Trade Center.
Engine 16 and Ladder 7 were both organized in 1865, the former on East 25th Street and the latter on East 28th. Since 1968, the two have resided together in a double firehouse on East 29th. One of the firemen, James, took on the job with a desire to help others and loves the constant change of pace.
Once a rear mount aerial, then a tiller, Ladder 7 became a tower ladder in 1978. There are several major hospitals, as well as old tenements brownstones and many large apartment houses and commercial hi rise in their first-alarm area.
9 Ιουν 2018 · The high ladders were called that because their stick was 144 feet long. FDNY bought two of them in 1962 . . . the very first FDNY rear mounts. They were built on a Mack C chassis, with a Magirus 144 foot ladder.
