Welcome to the AFIS Map Viewer. The advanced fire information system (AFIS) is a satellite-based fire information tool that provides near real time fire information to users across the globe.
The active fire map is a service offered and produced by NASA FIRMS based on the data collected by the MODIS/VIIRS sensors on board the satellites. The information collected is processed quickly and made available to the public within a few hours.
NASA FIRMS uses satellite observations from the MODIS and VIIRS instruments to detect active fires and thermal anomalies and deliver this information in near real-time to decision makers through email alerts, analysis ready data, online maps and web services.
Provides fire danger forecast up to 10 days in advance, 1-day lightning forecast and near-real time information on active fires... Statistics are provided at national level and for regions of interest, such as the “Brazilian Legal Amazon” and the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP).
