You can spray an over-the-counter decongestant spray, such as oxymetazoline (Afrin®, Dristan®, Neo-Synephrine® or Vicks Sinex®) into the bleeding side of your nose and then apply pressure to your nose. You shouldn’t use these topical decongestant sprays over a long period.
Give Care. General Care: Nosebleeds. Have the person pinch their nostrils together while sitting with their head slightly forward. Keep the nostrils pinched shut for at least 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, check to see if the bleeding has stopped. If the bleeding has not stopped, keep pinching the nostrils shut for another 5 minutes.
