Nnamdi Azikiwe (born November 16, 1904, Zungeru, Nigeria—died May 11, 1996, Enugu) was the first president of independent Nigeria (1963–66) and a prominent nationalist figure. Azikiwe attended various primary and secondary mission schools in Onitsha, Calabar, and Lagos.
