Seagrasses cover nearly 2.5 million acres of shallow sediments near Florida's coastline and in its estuaries and bays. An additional 2 million acres likely exist offshore in deeper waters in the Big Bend region and off the southwest Florida coast.
14 Αυγ 2023 · These maps can be used to determine seagrass density, coverage, species and prop scar damage. They can also be used to determine changes in each of the above parameters from maps generated from earlier images.
22 Ιουλ 2022 · This GIS data set was developed to represent the most recent seagrass mapping available in Florida for current statewide display and analysis. Not all areas have been mapped. This data set includes areas that were not previously mapped in other statewide compilations.
14 Αυγ 2023 · Although seagrasses occur throughout the coastal areas of Florida, they are most abundant in Florida Bay and from Tarpon Springs northward to Apalachee Bay in the Gulf of Mexico, which are two of the most extensive seagrass beds in continental North America.
In each chapter, contributors provide a concise overall assessment and color-coded "report cards" of seagrass status, as well as a map of the distribution of seagrass beds in the estuary or subregion, created using the latest available mapping product.
