28 Φεβ 2020 · Guidance: No. A driver using a § 395.1(e) short-haul exception who finds it necessary to exceed the exception limitations for unforeseen reasons is not in violation of the § 395.3 rest-break requirements if 8 or more hours have passed at the time the driver becomes aware of the inability to use the short-haul exception.
28 Μαρ 2022 · Drivers using the short-haul exception in §395.1 (e) (1) must report and return to the normal work reporting location within 14 consecutive hours, and stay within a 150 air-mile radius of the work reporting location.
The short-haul exception maximum allowable workday is changing from 12 to 14 hours, and the distance the driver may operate is extending from a 100 air-mile radius to a 150 air-mile radius.
SHORT-HAUL EXCEPTION. A driver is exempt from the requirements of § 395.8 and § 395.11 if: the driver operates within a 150 air-mile radius of the normal work reporting location, and the driver does not exceed a maximum duty period of 14 hours. The driver would be required to record duty status using either a paper log or ELD for that day of driving (with the adverse condition time included).
