The primary aim of this systematic review was to establish how quality of life (QoL) is affected in idiopathic focal, multifocal and segmental dystonia. This review aimed to evaluate variations in QoL between different subtypes of dystonia, identify the determinants of QoL and assess the effects of different treatments on QoL.
11 Απρ 2022 · The most common forms of dystonia in adults are focal, affecting the neck (cervical dystonia), eyes (blepharospasm), or associated with a task (eg, writer’s cramp). However, dystonia can also present with a generalised pattern, which is more common with childhood onset forms.
Focal dystonia is a neurological condition causing muscle spasms in one body part, often your hands or wrists. In golfers, people may call focal dystonia “the yips.”
The most common forms are the adult-onset focal dystonias (AOFD), involving the neck (cervical dystonia, CD), upper face (blepharospasm, BL) mouth and jaw (oromandibular, OMD), larynx (LD), or a limb (e.g. writer’s cramp and other focal hand dystonias).
15 Οκτ 2023 · Higher GAD scores at baseline predicted lower HR-QoL related to general health, pain and emotional well-being, whereas higher SAD scores predicted higher pain-related QoL after 2 years (all p ≤ 0.006). Dystonia severity at baseline predicted social functioning ( p = 0.002). Neither dystonic tremor, age, or sex predicted HR-QoL at 2 years.
25 Οκτ 2011 · In this Review, we describe the primary forms of dystonia (which are the most common forms) and the more complex forms (dystonia-plus syndromes) that are caused by neuronal dysfunction but not neuronal death.
We discuss the features of common idiopathic and genetic forms of dystonia, diagnostic challenges, and dystonia mimics. Appropriate workup is based on the age of symptom onset, rate of progression, whether dystonia is isolated or combined with another movement disorder or complex neurological and other organ system features.
