What is foot drop? Foot drop is a difficulty in lifting the foot when taking a step, causing it to catch on the ground and possibly cause trips and falls. It can be caused by weakness/inactivity in the muscles that lift the foot and/or overactivity in the muscles that pull the foot down.

Conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease may also result in foot drop. Conventional approaches to treating foot drop include physiotherapy, orthotic devices such as ankle foot orthosis (AFO), electrical stimulation of the affected nerves, and surgery.
