Introduction. Texas Family Initiative LLC would like for your foster care experience to be helpful to you and your family. The job of Texas Family Initiative is to assure you have a safe and healthy environment in which to live in until permanency is possible.
Each day, more than 6,000 children in the Texas foster care system are waiting to be adopted and find a permanent place to call home. Heart Galleries tell a child’s story through photographs capturing the spirit, individuality, interests, and unique needs of each child.
Texas Foster Care Handbook gives an overview of foster care for children age 10 and older who are in the foster care system (in DFPS conservatorship). It also provides information for older youth and young adults currently or formerly in foster care. Staff, children, youth, and young adults may use this document as a
foster care, normalcy often means being seen as a person rather than as a “foster youth.” 1 “Normalcy” is legally defined in the Texas Administrative Code as the ability of a child in care
DFPS offers many resources for people who want to become foster parents, or who already have, or who want to foster as a first step towards adoption. Many of these resources can be found on the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange (TARE).
Foster care includes the following: Emergency foster homes or shelters, where your child may live for as many as 30 days, until a more long term place to live is found to meet your child's specific needs; A foster home, where your child lives with foster parents until a permanent place to live is decided.
