Abstract—The classical formula of a parallel plate capacitor (PP-Cap) does not take fringing effects into consideration, which assumes that the side length of a PP-Cap is by far larger than the distance between the two plates.
The simplest formula to account for the fringing effect of a circular disk parallel plate capacitor is 4 : C’ = 0[( r2/d)+rln(16 r/d-1)] 2.
By finite element method (FEM) simulation and experimental measurement, this paper investigates the influencing factors of large distance PP-Cap especially in the capacitive power transfer application and thereby the proposed formula with improved accuracy is verified.
edge effects, and the non-uniform fields near the edge are called the fringing fields. In In Figure 5.2.1 the field lines are drawn by taking into consideration edge effects.

Example 6.6.3. Fringing Field of Dielectric Filled Parallel Plate Capacitor. Fields are to be determined in the planar region between a grounded conductor in the plane y = a and a pair of conductors in the plane y = 0, shown in Fig. 6.6.8. To the right of x = 0 in the y = 0 plane is a second grounded conductor.

This paper introduces a new model for the parallel plate actuator to calculate the value of static pull-in voltage. The proposed model considers the fringe field between the two plates.
