The National Board of Health and Welfare is a government agency under the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, with a very wide range of activities and many different duties within the fields of social services, health and medical services, patient safety and epidemiology.
The National Board of Health and Welfare thereby intends to strengthen the prospects of people in Sweden receiving medical care and social services of a uniformly high standard. We will publish summaries for the guidelines on this page.

The Ministry’s area of responsibility also includes social insurance, which provides financial security to people when they are sick or elderly, or when children are young.
The Board is the central national authority for social services and health services. The Board establishes norms by issuing provisions and general advice. It evaluates legislation and activities conducted by municipalities, county councils and local authorities. It also issues certificates of registration to 22 professional groups.
