24 Ιαν 2020 · You are able to run the feeder wires at 75 degrees C, allowing a higher ampacity: 4 AWG aluminum THWN/XHHW in conduit maxes out at 70A breaker. 6 AWG aluminum THWN/XHHW in conduit maxes out at 50A breaker.
You need a 3-3-3-5 copper SER cable to carry 100 amps (that's three #3 gauge for the two hot wires and the neutral and a #5 gauge for the ground). Source. If you want to use aluminum, you need at least #2 gauge or perhaps #1.
6 Ιαν 2020 · The ground should be green or bare #6 Cu, or black #4 Al. The wires should then be marked colors with colored electrical tape. The correct wire size is #1 AWG Al for 100A or 1/0 AWG Al for 125A. Very few people recommend copper for 100A feeder, other than people on sales commission.

23 Ιαν 2012 · If the subpanel is rated for 75A, you can of course have the total amps possible for each breaker exceeding that -- because they aren't loaded at all the same time. Just like how you can have 20 breakers that are 15-20A in a main panel rated for 100A.
