Church's Texas Chicken is an American fast food restaurant chain that specializes in fried chicken and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The chain was founded as Church's Fried Chicken To-Go by George W. Church Sr. in April 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, across the street from The Alamo.
1950s Origins. Church's founder was George W. Church, Sr. After retiring from a career in the poultry business, working as an incubator salesman, Church was 65 when he decided to launch a business selling fried chicken, pursuing a fast food concept that was ahead of its time.

George W. Church, Sr. (February 10, 1903 – May 17, 1956) was the founder of Church's Chicken. He founded the business on April 17, 1952 and willed the business to his son, George W. Church, Jr., upon his death in 1956. Prior to his retirement, he was an incubator salesman.
