Georgia state mottoes 'Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation' and 'Agriculture and Commerce' were adopted as elements of the State Seal; in this case, The Great Seal of the State of Georgia. The General Assembly of the State of Georgia adopted the state seal on February 8, 1799.
The state motto of Georgia is "Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation." All State Mottos. Although Georgia legislature has never made the motto official, it appears on the state flag, seal, and the Georgia quarter.
The motto "Agriculture and Commerce, 1776" is inscribed around the outside of the image. [4] [5] The dates listed on the obverse and reverse of the seal were originally 1799. The dates were changed by the Georgia state legislature in 1914 to reflect the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. [4]
The design symbolizes the state constitution supported by the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of the government. A soldier under the arch represents the readiness of Georgia's militia to defend these principles. The other side of the seal has the motto “Agriculture and Commerce” and an illustrative scene.
17 Μαΐ 2024 · Many believe the state motto of Georgia is "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation," since that straightforward message appears on the side of the state's two-sided state seal, which has remained unchanged since 1799. The other side of the seal, though, has the inscription "Agriculture and Commerce," offering a choice of mottoes.
Georgia Great Seal. The reverse of the Seal shows a ship with cotton and tobacco, and a man plowing, representing the agriculture and commerce of the Seal's motto. In 1914, the date on the Seal was changed from 1799 to 1776 to correspond with the date of the Declaration of Independence.
