This pickup set combines the 490R and the 498T. The 490R has the traditional characteristics of the original Patent Applied For pickups but with two key modifications. First, a four-conductor wiring scheme allows the 490s to be connected to any push/pull knob, which lets players split the coils and increase versatility.

31 Μαρ 2008 · I don't have much to add other than IMO the 57 Classic, Classic+, 490R, 490T, and 498T pickups are all great. It's true the 490 series sounds more "modern" but the difference in the mids and highs also make them great for note separation with more complex chording and leads.
27 Ιουν 2017 · I have the 498T/490R pickups in my '98 Standard, love 'em. The 498 has a nice upper-mid snarl that's great for AC/DC & Zep and the bottom end stays nice & tight even with a lot if OD. The 490 is my favorite neck pickup, period.
5 Ιαν 2024 · I have the 490R & 490T pickup set in my '95 Gibson SG Special and they are a great sounding set. I then took them out and installed them in my '06 Epiphone LP Standard and they even sounded better. This was due to the 500K ohm volume pots compared to the Gibson SG pots of 350k Ohms.
