There are bonus, challenging (cheating) bosses in each world that require a key to unlock them. They often have unique or valuable drops, such as good gear, mounts, spells or pets. Ngl, this is just a band aid on the skeleton key nerf and KI doing damage control, but free stuff is always nice.
