Netflix is the only service to give a French subtitles (CC) option. Amazon certainly does not. I agree that for some shows having the French subtitles is really helpful even if it often departs from a literal transcription of what's being said.
Below are some places to watch French TV for free when you live outside of France that I know of. Please feel free to comment if you have any other resources you'd like to add. Youtube: Franceinfo, France24, and Euronews français are the three prominent live streams.
Netflix has a decent amount of content for shows and movies, HBO Max has a lot of classic French films, and some recent ones. Use JustWatch to look up films and shows and it will tell you what services they're on in a given region. Netflix, frankly, but may depend on your region.

Dix Pour Cent is a great French language comedy, and Les Sept Vies de Léa is a highly underrated speculative YA limited run series that is rooted in a murder mystery. Both are on Netflix, and both are great for conversational immersion.
www.france.tv and www.6play.fr are both free to access. France.tv allows you to enable subtitles while streaming, 6play does not. For paid services, Netflix, Disney+ and I believe Hulu all offer different content if you connect from France. I also recommend MolotvTV.
So I'm looking for good series to watch and improve my French. For reference, some of the series I really like: Fargo, Game of Thrones, Rome, Deadwood, Narcos, Hannibal, Breaking Bad, The walking dead, Firefly, BSG, Black Sails, Hell on Wheels, House of cards, Turn, Utopia
