Marion Michael Rounds (born October 24, 1954) is an American businessman and politician serving as the junior United States senator from South Dakota since 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 31st governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011. Rounds was raised in Pierre, South Dakota.

In 1995, his colleagues selected him to serve as Senate Majority Leader, a position that he held for six years. During his time in state government, Rounds was committed to growing the economy, keeping taxes low and strengthening South Dakota families.
Rounds served as governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011. He was also a member of the South Dakota State Senate from 1991-2001. From 1995 to 2000, he held the leadership position of Senate majority leader. He was born in South Dakota and has 10 younger siblings.
Mike was sworn in as South Dakota’s 31st governor in 2003, and re-elected in 2006. He was committed to growing South Dakota’s economy, improving the daily lives of South Dakota citizens, and providing opportunities for young people to stay in South Dakota while holding taxes to a minimum.
