In Greek mythology, Aeolus was the Keeper of the Winds, who controlled the four winds that blew across the earth. The four winds were Boreas (the north wind), Zephyrus (the west wind), Eurus (the east wind), and Notus (the south wind).
The winds escape and stir up a storm that brings Odysseus and his men back to Aeolia. This time, however, Aeolus refuses to help them, certain that the gods hate Odysseus and wish to do him harm.
In ancient Greek religion and myth, the Anemoi (Greek: Ἄνεμοι, "Winds") were wind gods who were each ascribed a cardinal direction from which their respective winds came (see Classical compass winds), and were each associated with various seasons and weather conditions.
