The most destructive tornado in the outbreak occurred on the evening of May 4 in western Kansas, where about 95% of the city of Greensburg in Kiowa County was destroyed by an EF5 tornado, the first of the new Enhanced Fujita Scale and such intensity since the 1999 Bridge Creek–Moore tornado.
15 Φεβ 2023 · The Greensburg tornado that destroyed 95% of Greensburg, KS on May 4th, 2007 was the strongest of a 3 day long outbreak of tornadoes from South Dakota down to Oklahoma. That tornado alone caused 11 fatalities and numerous injuries, but 25 other twisters were confirmed on the same day.

4 Μαΐ 2017 · It’s worth noting that an even larger tornado (#13 on the map above) developed immediately following the Greensburg tornado’s demise. At times close to 2 miles in diameter, this immense vortex caused significant damage near Trousdale, where a combine was thrown 1/4 of a mile and dismantled.
NWS predicted the storm's exact path: directly through the small southwestern Kansas town of Greensburg, located about 100 miles west of Wichita. Tornado sirens in Greensburg sounded 20 minutes before it actually hit.
On the evening of May 4, 2007, a large and violent tornado struck the town of Greensburg, KS (Fig. 1). Approximately 95 percent of the town was destroyed including more than 500 homes and dozens of businesses. Eleven people died.
