A guardian spirit created by burying a black dog alive when a new church was founded. The Grim could be based on the urban legend of Cadejo Negro, a large black dog with glowing red eyes that is said to kill travellers at night. This beast is said to be stopped by it opposite, the Cadejo Blanco who protects travellers.

Though witches and wizards seem to be the stars of the wizarding world, there are also endless monsters and magical creatures that inhabit the land around Hogwarts. The Harry Potter books mention many more creatures than are included in the movies, ranging from vampires to a giant squid living in the Great Lake.
