The contest is open to writers anywhere in the world, except where participation is prohibited or restricted by applicable law. All authors must be 18 years or older at the time of submission. Submissions must be fictional stories between 2,500 and 5,000 words.
Grist: A Journal of the Literary Arts, seeks high quality submissions from both emerging and established writers. We publish craft essays and interviews as well as fiction, nonfiction, and poetry—and we want to see your best work, regardless of form, style, or subject matter.
A one-year subscription includes one issue of Grist and begins with the most recently published issue. Shipping is included in the cost of this one-year subscription. We appreciate your support as we work to advance the literary and creative arts!
We read for our ProForma Contest every spring from March 15 – April 30 and for general submissions from May 15 – August 15. Our print issue is published annually with accompanying online content.
