It calculates the ratio between the length of the string between the nut and a given fret, and the length of the entire string (scale length). We find the position of a fret n n n by multiplying the distance between the nut and saddle by this ratio:
Fret distance = scale length * (1 - (2^(-n/12))) In this formula: Fret distance is the distance from the nut (the zero fret) to the desired fret position. Scale length is the vibrating length of the strings, typically measured from the nut to the bridge saddles.
