In Japan, the game is known as Akumajō Dracula, so besides the different name it gained in the west, Haunted Castle is a game from the Castlevania saga, and also a remake of the first Castlevania (as are Vampire Killer, Super Castlevania IV and Castlevania Chronicles).
Level 1: Graveyard in the Woods. Simon begins his quest fighting his way through a cursed graveyard. The everpresent "town to be terrored" is visible in the background. Speaking of backgrounds, they are not to be ignored! All throughout the backgrounds and foregrounds will play a part in the game.
Right in the first level, a wall comes to life and starts throwing bricks as the rain comes pouring down. Later on, a torch falls on the ground and sets the ground on fire, leaving you to balance on top of pillars.
