The point is not the salvation of the soul but remaining true by faith to what God has said. We will see a long list of people who lived by faith in the next chapter.
1. (1-4) Sacrifice under the Old Covenant could not truly take away sin. For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.
Verse 36. Ye have need of patience — Having so great a fight of sufferings to pass through, and they of so long continuance. God furnishes the grace; you must exercise it. The grace or principle of patience comes from God; the use and exercise of that grace is of yourselves. Here ye must be workers together with God.
