The Birthplace of Route 66 Roadside Park celebrates the history of the iconic Mother Road, the idea for which was born just blocks away at the Colonial Hotel. Springfield businessman John T. Woodruff along with Cyrus Avery in Oklahoma proposed in 1926 the idea for the highway connecting Chicago to Los Angeles.

11 Αυγ 2019 · Springfield celebrated its Route 66 history with an awesome party- the 9th Annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival which was held in Downtown Springfield this past weekend. Attendees enjoyed classic cars, live music and entertainment, craft and vendor booths, and of course plenty of options for delicious food.
Before the Campbells returned, William Fulbright and his family moved to the area and settled in 1830 at Fulbright Spring, on what is now College Street just off Park Central Square. Soon after, Campbell and others began settling in the area and in 1838, the city was incorporated.
