12 Ιουν 2018 · In our study among CRC screening participants at average risk, fecal hemoglobin clearly outperformed fecal transferrin as a diagnostic marker and a combination with fecal transferrin did not improve the test performance for CRC early detection.
In a patient with symptoms, a result of >10 ug/g faeces is a positive result. A positive result indicates blood in the stool and further investigation is required to identify the source of the bleeding.
Heme-positive stool identifies gastrointestinal bleeding. Hemorrhagic shock (eg, hypotension, tachycardia, pallor, tachypnea, diaphoresis, confusion) may result from acute bleeding. Jaundice may suggest hemolysis.
