1965–1966: Heschel became the Harry Emerson Fosdick Visiting Professor at Union Theological Seminary, across the street from JTS. 1967: After the Six Day War, Heschel flew to Israel; he later wrote Israel: An Echo of Eternity (1969) about the religious significance of the Jewish State.
