Policy briefs are rarely sufficient on their own to achieve a specific policy outcome. They are an effective tool for drawing the attention of policy influencers and decision makers to a specific issue and suggesting opportunities for policy development. But, in practice, a policy brief usually marks only the start of an influencing process.
When drafting a proposal for a new or revised academic policy, please follow this basic template to assure that all relevant information is included. As needed, please also feel free to add sections, numbered and labeled as appropriate.
The standard University Policy Template contains a variety of sections that need to be completed when writing a policy. Below are descriptions of each section as well as tips, samples and more.

Hanover provides a template with which SUBR can create a strategic plan suited to the needs and aspirations of the institution and its stakeholders. This document presents a general framework and road map for the strategic planning process at Southern University and A&M College (SUBR).
A policy template is available into which policy text can be pasted. This template will feature the logo correctly placed, along with where to put the policy number, issuing office etc.
It is important to write about a policy problem, not an issue. What’s the difference? Issue: The geopolitics of the Arctic are shifting. Problem statement: The U.S. government lacks tools to protect its interests in the Arctic. Determine audience: from the choices in the assignment prompt. And then consider: Can your audience solve this problem?
