Camalig, officially the Municipality of Camalig (Central Bikol: Banwaan kan Camalig; Tagalog: Bayan ng Camalig), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Albay, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 72,042 people. [3]
Camalig was founded as town in 1579 by the Franciscan missionaries, Father Pablo de Jesus and Father Bartolome Ruiz, who continued the work started by the Augustinian chaplains of the early Spanish expeditions to the region. It is the earliest town to be founded in the Province of Albay.

27 Ιουλ 2013 · According to existing records, the town of Camalig was established between the years 1569 and 1570 by Spanish explorers under the leadership of Luis Enriquez de Guzman, a Spanish military officer who explored the islands of Masbate, Ticao, Burias and par- (sic) of Albay.
The unveiling of the historical marker held last December 14, 2014 at Camalig, Albay. In 2016, the National Museum declared Camalig Church as one of the significant structures of the Philippines under the category of Important Cultural Property.
15 Ιαν 2024 · The Japanese tunnel in Camalig, Albay, has undergone extensive restorations to preserve its historical significance. The 35-meter-long, two-meter-wide tunnel was once a fortress for the Japanese Imperial Army during the Philippines’ 1940s occupation.
