  2. 14 Φεβ 2023 · Dietary fibre: what is it and how can it be measured? Fifty years ago, Burkitt and colleagues who were working on dietary fibre and health had a significant problem. There was no clear definition of what dietary fibre is and no reliable methods for its measurement.

  3. It is generally believed that Hipsley in 1953 was the first to use “dietary fiber” as a shorthand term for the nondigestible constitu-ents that make up the plant cell wall (1). These constituents were known to include cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin.

  4. After 50 y of RDAs and RNIs, the DRIs have brought a new paradigm to planning and assessing nutrient intake in the United States and Canada in the last 20 y. Many applications, including national food guidance in Canada and the United States, depend on the most accurate estimates of DRIs possible.
