Emo is not yet a genre of its own, but rather an influential movement in punk music, which adds a raw, emotional aspect to songs. Notable bands related to the movement are Rites of Spring and Embrace.
1 Μαρ 2023 · Emo, then known as emocore, first appeared in Washington D.C.’s hardcore punk scene in the 1980s. Cited as the first emo act, Rites of Spring took inspiration from the punk band Minor Threat and expanded upon hardcore conventions by combining rock with deep, sentimental lyrics.
5 Δεκ 2017 · Emo hit its mainstream peak in the mid-2000s, but the genre’s roots date back to about two decades before that. The most commonly agreed-upon birthplace and time of emo is the mid-80s DC hardcore scene.
