2 Δεκ 2022 · Answer. There is a mystical Jewish tradition that the high priest of Israel would enter the Holy of Holies in the tabernacle or temple with a rope tied to his foot. The purpose of the rope, according to the tradition, was to retrieve the high priest’s body in case he died in the course of his duties within the Holy of Holies.
It has been said that that because the high priest could be killed by God in Holy of Holies if not properly prepared according to Divine instructions, a rope was routinely tied around his ankle. Then, if he dropped dead, his body could be dragged out.
Supposedly, on Yom Kippur, the High Priest had a rope tied around his ankle before entering the holy of holies. He would proceed beyond the veil to burn incense before the Ark and sprinkle blood seven times upon the mercy.

8 Φεβ 2022 · The innermost garment (except for the linen drawers reaching “from the hips and to the thighs,” worn by all the priests “to cover the naked flesh”; Ex 28:42) was the robe (Heb., kut·toʹneth), made of fine (probably white) linen of checkerwork weave. This robe apparently had long sleeves and reached down to the ankles.
A reference to a rope being attached to the ankle or leg of a priest has not been found in the Bible, Josephus, Philo, the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha or in the writings of the church fathers. But our Jewish friends state that this was the ancient practice.
