11 Ιουν 2023 · There are claims that the Elite oil will damage nitron finishes. I'm happy with the regular Hoppe's stuff, and I like the smell. They did change something years back to reduce it.

17 Ιουν 2014 · The Hoppe's is my main lubricating oil. I have also used BreakFree CLP for many years, which works well in cleaning. I have a free sample bottle of the red Lucas Gun Oil. They claim it was tested on M2 .50 cals for thermal resistance.
21 Σεπ 2023 · I was happy with Hoppes grease , but tried Hoppes Oil on the rails: dried out after only 140 rounds , had issues feeding. I tried CLP on the rails but that didn’t make it through a 5 hr class. I tried Ballistol.
20 Φεβ 2006 · When I hit the sporting goods store to buy more, the Hoppes Elite equivalent products caught my eye. They claim to work more quickly, have no petroleum distillates or amonia, and are relatively safer to use and scent free. So I bought a bottle of the Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner and the Hoppes Elite Copper Terminator.

Hoppes 9 Elite Foaming Gun Cleaner has been identified by more than one Law Enforcement agency as having the potential to damage the internal mechanisms in firearms.
Hoppe's oil is good for cleaning carbon and other junk from real guns; that is, it aggressively attacks and solvates (dissolves) lots of polar compounds. EDIT: and if memory serves, that stuff stinks and the vapors sting the eyes.
