12 Μαρ 2019 · Forty years ago the world got its first glimpse of what would become one of the most important music devices in history - the compact disc (CD). The CD was invented in 1979.
How it began. The story of the CD started way back in 1957 with experiments involving the rudimentary video disc by the Italian Antonio Rubbiani, that stimulated an entire generation of scientists to think along the lines of digital technology.
In later years, the compact disc was adapted for non-audio computer data storage purposes as CD-ROM and its derivatives. First released in Japan in October 1982, the CD was the second optical disc technology to be invented, after the much larger LaserDisc (LD).
12 Απρ 2017 · The compact disc is a sound recording medium introduced by the Sony and Philips companies in 1982. The sound is recorded as digital information on a plastic disc, and the disc is “read” by a small laser.
Berliner’s first record had a diameter of 12.5 cm, only half a centimeter larger than the Compact Disc that was to be introduced 95 years later. But Berliner’s disc had a playing time of barely one minute, while today’s CDs can contain around 80 minutes of music.
In 1976 Phillips and Sony developed the compact disc (CD), an optical disc used to store and playback digital data. It was originally developed to store and playback sound recordings exclusively. CDs can hold up to 700 megabytes. This equates to up to 80 minutes of uncompressed audio. By 2007 200 billion CDs were sold worldwide.
