- How exactly does YouTube view count work? : r/youtube - Reddit
As seen in my screenshot the video was up for 15 minutes, being 33 minutes long, and it's got 2.8k views. Which is obviously impossible if YouTube counts only a full viewing as a view. So I'm just wondering, does anyone know if it's like only a click, till first ad, or something else?
If a viewer drags the playhead to the middle or near the end and never plays from the beginning, does that count as a view? Do Adblockers affect how views are counted or just views counted towards monetization?
It counts when the video starts. If an ad plays before the video, it doesn't count yet. It's only when all the ads are done and the main video loads that it counts. You can check watch history and test it to see.
The video is embedded, so you’re watching the video. Yes it counts as a view on YouTube.
In order for the 4000 hours of Watch Time to count, your videos have to be public. So that means you can't do a live stream, and then set it to unlisted. You also can't make videos and then six months down the line, delete them or set them to private. They have to remain public to count.
It seems they do. I just tested this by creating and uploading a new video to my channel and keeping it unlisted. I then posted it to Reddit as a link, received some views, refreshed my studio page and there they were.
