On most hillslopes large quantities of soil and sediment are moved over time via the mediums of air, water, and ice often under the direct influence of gravity. The form a hillslope takes is dependent on the various geomorphic processes acting on it.
24 Φεβ 2024 · Stream Power Theory: According to this theory, streams have the power to erode and transport sediment, contributing significantly to slope development. It considers factors such as stream velocity, discharge, and sediment load in shaping slopes through erosion and deposition.
Streams flow downhill due to the force of gravity. The higher the hill, the more gravitational energy there is to drive the stream. Where the slopes are steepest and the hills the highest, the streams will be the most energetic and the rate of erosion will be fastest.
Hillslope processes refer to the various geological and environmental processes that occur on the slopes of hills and are influenced by factors such as gravity, climate, and the composition of the materials present.
Gravity, flowing water, and temperature changes are the main forces behind hillslope processes, with the action of animals and plants being important in some situations. This section describes the processes involved in the transport of material over hillslopes.
22 Ιουν 2019 · We describe the qualitative study of Toma Hills using an analogue (physical) laboratory-scale model to understand their formation mechanism. First results of this study have already been published in Wolkersdorfer et al. (2017), but will be substantially extended here. Fig. 1. Overview of the study area.
18 Ιαν 2022 · Mass movement is the downslope movement of rock and or soil under the influence of gravity and is one of the most fundamental earth system processes. This chapter explores the causes of mass movement and also illustrates the wide range of different forms it can take.
